(Sr.) Product Design Engineer Job Description
The ideal candidate is self-directed and goal oriented with advanced CAD modeling (Unigraphics NX, Pro/Engineer, Inventor) and analysis skills and hands-on experience with a variety of manufactured components such as complex molded and cast parts, machined and sheet metal parts, and electronics packaging. The position requires design and communication skills that facilitate a team based approach to integrate and work with other engineers and departments. Other important skills are a pro-active attitude and a strong self-organising way of working. Good knowledge of physics and experience with developing products for mass production is a big plus.
Responsibilities
- The (Sr.) Product Design Engineer leads product development projects from conceptual design trough development.
- Performs preliminary and detailed concept investigation. Includes research, technical feasibility studies, and cost estimates and manufacturing processes in support of new product design.
- Develops and contributes to detailed project plans including tasks, timelines and budgets.
- Designs new products using high-end engineering skills such as rapid prototyping as well as engineering thermal and stress analysis.
- A high level of proficiency with CAD (Unigraphics, Pro/Engineer or Inventor), MS Project and MS Office Applications.
- Assists Suppliers and Purchasing in evaluating new and modified components.
- Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
- Develops product manuals by providing parts and assembly graphics using CAD.
- Preparation of design documents for release to vendors for requests for pricing.
(Sr.) Product Design Engineer Job Requirements
- Bachelor or Master degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering
- 2-5 years experience in a similar position;
- Experience with complex plastic parts design & injection molding; experience with die casting is a plus.
- Experience with CAD (Unigraphics, Pro/Engineer, Inventpor) multi-body & master modeling skills for complex parts.
- Familiarity with stress and thermal analysis tools.
- 2-5 years experience with 2D drawing creation to industry standards (GT&D).
- Proven experience creating designs to meet Design for Manufacturing and Assembly.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
