Director of Engineering Job Description

• Manage the Engineering department (150 employees) and coach employees to optimize quality of work;
• Translate company strategy into operational engineering plan and budget and ensure implementation;
• Provide sufficient qualified resources to deliver technically acceptable outcomes within agreed projects schedule and cost;
• Manage and participate in resource planning, salary reviews, and recruitment initiatives;
• Support proposal preparation and attend management reviews, including advising on the availability and cost of suitably qualified resources;
• Represent Engineering and ensure support within the organisation;
• Support the R&D / IT department in realising, implementing and shaping product and process innovations;
• Implement (including training, support and advise) and monitor application of policies, processes and standards;
• Remain current with technical developments in the industry and ensure they are incorporated into design methods and the toolset where appropriate;
• Identify and develop innovative technical solutions that may provide commercial advantage to the company;
• Manage low cost engineering partners.

Director of Engineering Job Requirements

• Bachelor/Master degree in Electrical/Aerospace Engineering or related field;
• Successful track record in a senior engineering position, preferably in the maritime, aerospace or capital intensive industry;
• Ability to inspire and influence people;
• Superior and decisive problem solving capabilities with a strong focus on workable, real-world solutions to issues;
• Evident initiative with the confidence and intuition to instigate and drive tangible outcomes;
• Strong organizational sensitivity and diplomatic skills;
• Fluency in English with ideally understanding of Dutch and French;
• Open to international travel.
