Main Purpose of the Role
As a Software Localization Engineer the candidate will be responsible to set up the infrastructure and implement the toolset that enable localization content and quality teams to deliver videogames in up to 20 languages.
He or she will be driving the technical efforts of a specific franchise or brand (FIFA, Dragon Age, Dead Space as examples) during its production phase. The candidate will need to understand the game technology (Frostbite 2 and other internal or commercial engines), internationalization code of the game and content pipelines - front end text and speech, mainly – to be ready to train and lead his peers to support delivery of such franchise. Conversely, he will need to be able to adapt quickly to different technology to help his peers to deliver their franchises.
He is responsible to improve the shared and distributed technology that the Engineering department uses to deliver solutions to the games localization problem.
Consequently, the candidate should be able adapt quickly and develop across different platforms, technologies and frameworks.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Work closely with users within the localization organization and partners in the game development studios to gather requirements to be delivered within the project cycle.
- Understand game engine behavior, internationalization code and content pipelines to seamlessly integrate with localization technology.
- Translate requirements into designs, break down into development tasks and negotiate the implementation plan with team leader/project manager.
- Understand the department technology and make the best use of it to deliver the toolset and infrastructure used to localize the game. Extend and improve its functionality with reusability in mind.
- Design, maintain, implement, test and debug own code and review peers’ code. Contribute to the development of peers’ projects as needed.
- Deliver software and present its functionality to users and partners. Create user and technical documentation and train the users.
Software Engineer (18043) Job Requirements
Skills and Knowledge Required
- University degree (BSc) in Software Engineering or similar background.
- 5+ years of professional experience in software development preferably in production teams close to the customer.
- Development experience using .NET framework (C#) and WPF.
- Deep knowledge of software engineering best practices and tools: CI, TDD, SOLID, KISS, TUBE, etc.
- Strong debugging skills and fluent in reading code.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken).
Skills and Knowledge Desired - Previous experience in Agile environments is a big plus (Scrum, Kanban)
- Understanding of game architecture and game assets pipelines.
- Relational DB design and optimization.
- Experience with scripting languages (Ant, Python, Perl).
- Experience in software localization and internationalization.
- Previous experience in the videogames industry.
