Metallurgist / Materials specialist Job Description
The job:
For our organization we are looking for a: Metallurgist / Materials specialist
As a metallurgist you will be responsible for the implementation, progress and completion of the improvement projects to be set up for a specific group of key parts. These are parts that are vital in terms of the performance and functionality of our Marel machines.
Your work from day to day would include:
- Standardisation of the current product package in the field of materials, geometry etc...
- The independent carrying out of inspections and research plans and doing work preparations. The examinations and tests that must be thought of are focused on innovation and process improvement and consist of mechanical research, corrosion tests, material analyses and other material specialist investigations. Where necessary, you may outsource parts of an inspection or investigation (such as laboratory work), both internally and externally;
- Producing test parts;
- Interpreting and documenting the research results, formulating opinions and presenting and reporting the results;
- Monitoring the progress, costs and quality of the projects;
As a metallurgist you will have and develop a usable network so that you can keep up to date with all the latest developments and trends. You will be the reference point for all Marel companies for material related questions; you will give advice regarding the design and implementation of constructions and choice of materials. You will also pass on your knowledge to colleagues, for example by organising workshops.
Metallurgist / Materials specialist Job Requirements
Your profile:
As the appropriate candidate for this job, you will have:
- Completed HTS (Technical College) training (material specialist/mechanical engineering) or MTS (Technical Secondary School) training plus the relevant work experience;
- Interest in technologically innovative machines and systems for the fish, meat and poultry-processing industries;
- Practical knowledge of:
- Suitability of materials in mechanical engineering constructions;
- The interaction of choice of materials, geometry product and processes (processing technologies and production techniques);
- Specification of materials and geometry in a technical drawing;
- Checking of products against specific quality requirements;
- Knowledge of suitability of materials coming into contact with meat/fish/poultry is a must;
- Affinity with the mechanical engineering design process and engineering systems (3D CAD, PLM);
- Good spoken and written English.
As a person you will be able to work in a multidisciplinary team, and also lead projects. Your enterprising character will help you to give shape to this unique position. You will have good communicative skills; you will be able to make contact easily with people from different levels and cultures, and will pass on your knowledge to others in a clear way. Finally, you will have a practical attitude; you will develop your knowledge further by experimenting and doing.
