We deliver creative solutions for building projects for industry, government, commercial and leisure sectors. Our building engineering specialists have expertise in structural and building services engineering, fire engineering, acoustics, facades and seismic design. Job Description
Our Building Engineering business line is currently seeking exceptional ‘A’ level/Higher Grade students to fulfil its Trainee Technician (Grade 9) positions. These positions will be based in Bristol where you will be supporting our teams to deliver great projects.
Job responsibilities may include all or some of the following:
- Production of CAD (Computer Aided Design) drawings
- Preparation of simple calculations
- Supporting the administration of projects
- Ensuring outputs meet the required standards
- Meeting agreed deadlines
- Maintaining drawing registers
- Working as a member of a team
- Contributing to providing solutions to probl
- Working both in an office environment and on site
2013 Trainee Positions / Building Engineering / Bristol Job Requirements
No previous work experience is necessary but the position is ideally suited to recent school/college leavers who meet the following requirements:
- Hold a minimum of five GCSEs/Standard Grades, graded A-C with two of these in Maths and Science (physics preferred) or hold an equivalent qualification such as an NVQ level or BTEC (Business & Technology Education Council) First Diploma in Construction
Candidates should be: - Able to demonstrate an interest in working in Technology and Science and a desire to pursue a career in Civil Engineering but with a particular interest in Building Engineering
- Be creative, practical, adaptable and persevering
- Interested in using computers for design work, calculations and testing designs
- Able to produce neat and accurate technical drawings
- Able to think in a methodical way to design, plan and organize projects
- Work well with other people
- Be able to organize the work of others
- English language proficient, holding excellent communication skills to present information in speech, drawings and reports
- Hold an awareness of health and safety, environmental factors and sustainability in all aspects of engineering projects
- Committed to continued education and improvement through on-the-job training and learning opportunities
- This role will combine work-based on-the-job training on a wide range of projects for a variety of clients (ensuring real opportunities for personal growth and career progression) with further studies.
The traineeship will typically run over a three year period during which time candidates will undertake a supervised programme of training and college day release. Candidates must be willing to progress their career by undertaking a day release course at a Further Education college to study a relevant engineering discipline such as the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Built and Natural Environment, where the opportunity will exist to obtain Technician Membership of the ICE (Institute of Civil Engineers). Your study will be funded – whilst you earn an income as a permanent employee of AECOM. There may be the opportunity to go onto further study to enable you to be qualified to degree level and achieve Chartered Engineering Status.
Trainee salaries are typically in the range of £10,000 to £13,000 per annum.
