Graduation Assignment: Development of NFC Mobile Payments Solution “Turning the phone into a multi-purpose wallet”
With the widespread use of (NFC enabled) smartphones by consumers, also the interest of mobile proximity payments has grown significantly. These mobile proximity payments are payments in which the mobile phone is used to perform a contactless transaction using an emulated payment card through NFC technology.
In order to ensure secure payments, just like with your (new) contact payment card which contains a chip these days, a security mechanism is required in the mobile phone. This so-called “secure element” is either embedded in the phone or added in a SIM-card or microSD-card. A GUI (mobile wallet) is required in order to interact with the (payment) applications within this secure element.
The assignment
UL TS is offering you the possibility to perform a unique (graduation) assignment in the area of mobile proximity payments. In this assignment, you will be responsible for the complete development of an Android-based mobile wallet, including the actual realization of enabling it for NFC proximity payments using the application in the secure element. Next to payment functionalities, you are encouraged to develop one or more additional features to the mobile wallet which makes use of the NFC interface. A working prototype as well as a report with the design and decision process will be the deliverables of this assignment.
Department
During your work, you will be supported by experts from UL TS’ Mobile and Payment Competence Centers.
