Scionics Computer Innovation GmbH provides IT products, consulting, and support to enhance the efficiency of scientific research in the life sciences and other knowledge based industries. We are located in Dresden, Germany, and work in close contact with the local research community.
Job Description
Scionics Computer Innovation seeks to recruit a highly motivated individual to lead a small team dedicated to BioImage informatics (biological image analysis). This team will be based within an academic research institute and will provide image analysis services to the Dresden scientific community. The team will work closely with research groups working at the interface of biology and physics as well as with several groups dedicated to optical technology development. This provides an exciting and unique opportunity to work on image analysis in a multidisciplinary environment with biologists, mathematicians, physicists, and computer scientists.
The contribution of the Biopolis Dresden campus to the BioImage informatics field is featured in Nature Methods 9, 2012. The team will also work closely with the core imaging facilities on the Dresden campus. These facilities provide researchers with access to a broad range of imaging technologies. Current imaging technologies available include wide-field fluorescence microscopy, laser scanning confocal microscopy, two-photon microscopy, spinning disk confocal microscopy, selective plane illumination microscopy (SPIM), total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy, and super resolution light microscopy as well as electron microscopy.
These core imaging facilities are used by hundreds of researchers performing imaging experiments on a broad range of model organisms such as mammalian cells, living or fixed tissue slices, worm, fruit fly, mouse, axolotl and yeast. The multi-dimensional data of such imaging experiments requires expert level computational analysis to extract statistically robust quantitative data. As a service, the BioImage informatics service team needs to have outstanding communication skills to establish a close working relationship with researchers and with staff of the core imaging facilities.
The goal of such a partnership is to make sure that imaging experiments are planned, designed and performed in a way that the data produced is suitable for subsequent image processing and image analysis. The team will also interact with the computer vision scientists in research groups working on specialized image analysis problems. This close relationship will allow the integration of cutting edge image analysis solutions into the service portfolio.
