Position Description
The department Research on Products and Processes (RPP) is part of the Océ’s R&D organization (800 employees) in Venlo. RPP focuses on technological innovations, new business development or a combination of the two. Our ambition is not just to comply with environmental legislation, but to become a ‘smart’ leader in sustainable solutions for our customers. Currently RPP is focusing on technological breakthroughs to become a leader in sustainable solutions. Within this field we have a vacancy for the position of Researcher Sustainable Products and Service Concepts Challenge in the field of ecodesign, coming up with feasible concepts.
Your role
You work on the future projects of R&D, doing exploratory research to make Océ’s products, services and working methods more sustainable. You come up with concepts that convincingly demonstrate the right balance between sustainability, financial profit and customer satisfaction. For your business cases you perform life cycle assessments (bill of materials, analysis of production and recycling phase), make cost and benefit estimates.
You analyze topics like the relation between ink droplet composition, spreading behavior on a substrate and print quality. A fascinating combination of micro fluidics, surface physics and micro optics. Other possible topics to work on are the design of smart coatings for sheets or printer parts with the right balance of physical properties (antistatic, frictional, optical, adhesion, environmental, cost), or ingenious heating/cooling concepts for drying wet sheets at minimum energy use and high velocity.
You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that focuses on a research topic. You will work with other physicists, mechanical engineers, industrial designers, chemists and electronics and software experts. Together you will realize your concepts into designs, and proof the feasibility in test equipment and/or prototypes of new printers. Where relevant you will work together with external partners and/or with product development colleagues that design their products based on your concepts.
Our Offer
We offer you a job in an informal environment, where we work in small multidisciplinary teams on our research projects. We offer you also the opportunity to develop yourself in our organization. Possible next steps can be in a technical direction, project management or people management.
