Reliability Engineer for GaN Power Device
Job description
You will be a member of the Power and Mixed Signal Technology group. Its mission is to perform R&D in the field of high voltage and high power Si and GaN devices, smart power, analog and mixed signal technologies.
Imec is developing new process technologies with a focus on meeting device targets and technology transfers to customers.
GaN is a wide bandgap material that allows developing power devices with high breakdown, low on-resistance and high switching speed. It offers also unique optical properties making it a prime candidate for LEDs with high quantum efficiency. Application fields are grid connection for solar and wind energy, power management for hybrid electric cars, AC to DC convertors for battery charges and solid-state lightning.
Imec has built a wide background in GaN in the past years, and has expanded this activity by launching an Imec Industrial Affiliation Program (IIAP), that offers multiple customers a shared program for the growth of GaN layers on Si wafers, and for the development on these substrates power devices for switching applications and LEDs for solid state lightning. Specific tasks are in supporting the GaN IIAP with respect to characterization and modeling of the reliability of GaN power devices, investigating the dominant failure mechanisms in novel device architectures and improving the reliability of the devices. The devices are designed for different mode of operation (depletion mode or enhancement mode), and different operating voltage ranges, from 50 to 1000V. This task is done in a team that combines knowhow in epitaxy, process integration, TCAD, reliability and electrical and material characterization.
We offer
We offer you a challenging position in an advanced high-tech environment, in an international team. This is your opportunity to contribute to technologies that will have an impact on tomorrow’s society.
We offer you an attractive salary added with competitive extra-legal benefits such as an interesting life insurance, hospitalization insurance and long-term disability insurance. Imec takes on the full cost of these insurances.
On top of that you receive meal vouchers for each working day. Furthermore, imec offers various training possibilities and social services, such as a company restaurant, ironing service, the possibility of day care on site, holiday daycare and discounts in different sport clubs and shops. To decrease our ecological footprint 100% of the transport by train is reimbursed by imec.
Profile
You are an enthusiastic, creative and ambitious team player with a Master’s or PhD degree. in electrical engineering or applied physics. You have a solid background in solid-state device physics, and knowledge of III-V or Si processing (lithography, dry etching, oxidation, nitridation, implantation, etc.) is required. Experience from working in an industrial environment or as post-doc at a university or research institute is considered a strong point. You have experience in characterizing advanced or specialty devices. Fluency in English is a must in imec’s international working environment.
