JOB TITLE: Design and Applications Engineer
DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Engineering Department
REPORTING TO: Technical Director
BRIEF SUMMARY/CONTEXT OF ROLE:
This is an important role in the design and development of customised Jack products which are then manufactured on site. The role involves working with the Senior Design and Applications Engineer to specify and design products to a high degree of accuracy and detail to suit customer applications, close customer and workshop liaison to ensure that the customer receives the product, which suits their needs.
Roles and Responsibilities:
1. The job holder will design new and/or customised products for special jack applications from customer specifications; requesting further data/specifications from customers as and when required.
2. The job holder will, as an ongoing task, assist the Sales Team with the selection of the correct, commercially viable product for a given application/customer specification.
3. The job holder will assist in the creation of design documentation including 3D CAD models, BOM’s, Manuals, Project Technical Files, etc, ensuring that high quality, accurate and up to date records are maintained at all times.
4. The job holder will be flexible and work as part of a small specialised team adhering to tight deadlines.
5. The job holder will ensure that all new designs are produced in line with current and approved Company procedures, EU Product Guidelines and legislative requirements.
6. The job holder will liaise with suppliers, Sales Team, Customers as required to facilitate the design and development of new technologies, ideas and commercially viable products.
7. The job holder will advise and assist with testing and evaluation of new/customised products and component parts, ensuring that these are commercially viable.
8. The job holder will provide accurate, effective and timely technical advice for other internal company departments.
9. The job holder will provide a trouble shooting/problem solving service to all other internal company departments and will quickly and effectively assist customers with technical queries arising out in the field.

Person Specification:
Knowledge:
Qualified to degree level in a Mechanical Engineering discipline or other relevant and similar engineering discipline.
Skills:
Must be fully competent in 2D and 3D software. The company currently use Solidworks as their standard package and experience of using this software would be a distinct advantage to any candidate. Must be an adaptable, flexible teamworker; able to communicate at all levels, particularly at shop floor level.
Experience:
Must have minimum 2-3 years experience in a mechanical engineering and manufacturing industry and able to put this experience into practice quickly and effectively, ie hit the ground running.
