The Role
TRW is one of the world's largest producers of electrically powered steering systems, supplying a wide range of global vehicle manufacturers. Key to vehicle safety, these products must meet stringent legislative requirements, while also satisfying increasing demands from end-users, resulting in a highly technical product.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to perform the role of managing the Test & Validation Laboratory responsible for the validation of Column Drive (CD) EPS systems. The role is ideally suited to an engineer with previous management experience and knowledge in a test environment. You will hold responsibility for the coordination and management of staff and equipment (durability and functional test rigs) to provide a Test & Validation facility/service to aid the development and launch of new steering systems. You will work with engineers, suppliers and Quality and Production teams to deliver components to meet TRW and customer requirements.

This role is based at our prestigious technical centre in Solihull. With additional technical centres and multiple plants throughout Europe, Asia and the Americas, you will have local responsibility in the UK, but also be part of a larger, global team responsible for validation of the range of TRW steering systems worldwide.  

What you'll do: 

• Plan and oversee the test schedule and determine best use of resource to meet the demands of the engineering programme
• Supervise the planned testing ensuring specifications are followed and timing plans are met
• Ensure timely reporting of test results
• Manage and coordinate the testing of samples as part of the overall validation process
• Monitor and oversee the department's financial performance in order to achieve budget targets
• Identify test equipment requirements (both short and long term), produce appropriate specifications and liaise with suppliers for procurement
• Coordinate and liaise with other TRW Steering T&V laboratories to share best practice and maximise equipment utilisation by transferring work or skills as appropriate
• Ensure departmental compliance with the relevant quality standards
• Day to day supervision of the department

Test & Validation Manager Job Requirements

Essantial:

• 2.1 or better degree in a relevant engineering discipline (ideally mechanical engineering)
• Extensive project management experience with the ability to drive for results
• Good communication & leadership skills
• Demonstrated ability to work proactively
• Rigorous and positive approach to work under a rapidly changing environment with demanding timescales

• Experience of working in an automotive environment, particularly test
• Knowledge of testing electro mechanical systems
• Six Sigma certified
