TECHNICAL CONSULTANT/ARCHITECT DATA NETWORKS Job Description
Organization Profile:
The Informatiseringscentrum (IC) is the ICT organization of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and delivers a large number of ICT services to academic units, students and staff. In addition, the IC shapes the ICT architecture and information management of the UvA. Dynamism and a huge variety of ICT techniques and applications are characteristic for ICT at the UvA. IC has about 180 permanent employees with substantive expertise, a proactive attitude and disposing great customer and service orientation . IC consists organizational of the following departments: Front Office, Operations, Technical Support, Service Management, information systems and education/ research services.
Technical Support (26 employees) focuses on improving and renewing the ICT infrastructure of the UvA and based services and is responsible for formulating the technical architecture policy. Developments in the ICT area are closely and actively followed and introduced as they are important for the UvA. The implementation and rollout of new techniques and services and providing technical support at calamities are also part of the service.
Job Description:
As a Technical Consultant are you specialist in the area of Data networking technology and telephony. You are the point of mutual interest in the area of the fiber-and datanetworking infrastructure of the UvA and you will also determine the policy. You will give advice about the maintenance and innovation of the telephony and data network within the complex and large-scaled infrastructure of the UvA. The following activities are performed:
- advising about the maintenance and innovation of the telephony and data network of the University
- develops, monitors and maintains the network design
- create and maintain test plans
- makes proposals for adjustments of functionality and/or the technical functioning of the UvA network
- advises and guides users of ICT services at the UvA at the introduction, use and application of parts of the UvA network
- supervises and supports ICT managers in the management of the network equipment
- evaluates and improves existing procedures.
- Gives 3rd line support at operational issues
- analyzes and solves complex problems in the network infrastructure
- advises the head manager in the area of communications and networking technology
Working Conditions:IC has is offering a professional and innovative environment, a large diversity of projects and a complex, challenging infrastructure (distributed over multiple locations in the city centre of Amsterdam) and space for personal and professional development. The conditions are updated and comprise a good salary (scale 11, max € 4374, depending on age, education and experience), a thirteenth month and many vacation days (more than 40 days) as well as extra conditions like paid parental leave and sports facilities.

TECHNICAL CONSULTANT/ARCHITECT DATA NETWORKS Job Requirements
- a relevant technical degree with comparable work and level of thinking.
- at least five years of work experience with technical infrastructures of which at least three years experience in network infrastructures
Experience in the specific fields of focus: - Routing & Switching (Cisco IOS)
- Network Security (FWSM, VPN)
- Hybrid Voice/Data (Avaya telephony)
- Network Management (Cisco Works LMS, HPOV Network Node Manager)
- Experience with Cisco solutions for mentioned above is preferred
- Experience with similar Juniper solutions is an advantage
- Professional certifications (Cisco/Juniper) are an asset
- Solid knowledge of Unix
- Knowledge of and experience with Voice over IP implementations, preferably experience with Avaya voice platform
- ITIL-certified or willing to obtain ITIL-certificates
- knowledge of and experience with project-based working (Prince2)
- excellent knowledge of: data communication techniques, routing protocols, network management tools
- customer focused
- Able to work under pressure and willing to work, if necessary, outside office hours
- Good communication skills and a good command of the Dutch language oral and written
- Team Player
