Wind Resource Analyst Job Description
The Business Unit Onshore Wind Projects develops plans into executable projects for the Vattenfall Onshore Wind Portfolio. Since 2009 Nuon is part of the Vattenfall group. The Business Unit Engineering & Construction is a cross border organized team which supports the development teams in different countries (UK, Sweden, Denmark, The Netherlands and Germany). Within Engineering & Construction there is a dedicated team of 10 Wind resource analysts, spread around different countries, who play an important role in the engineering phase of the onshore and offshore wind projects of Vattenfall.
As the business is in an expansive phase, we are now looking for a Wind Resource Analyst in Amsterdam to strengthen the Engineering & Construction team.
Do you have a high level of technical knowledge and expertise in the field of Wind Resource Assessment and are you eager to provide technical support to the business development and generation departments? Than you might be the new Wind Resource Analyst we are looking for.
What will you do?
As Wind Resource Analyst you will analyze the wind conditions in current and future windfarms, including wind data gathering, data analyses, constraints and limitations for the layout definition, site appraisal, and energy estimation for onshore and offshore clients. You will assist the development team in the Netherlands, but since you are part of cross border team, you will also be engineering for development teams in the other Vattenfall countries. You will define the appropriate measurement campaign in every site in order to ensure the reliability of the production estimation at every tollgate.
You will also analyze the available data, in order to understand the climate conditions at every site and estimate the long term, and compile all information regarding constrains to develop the optimal lay-out. The position will sometimes include visits to the sites to identify real constraints and verify the proposed lay-outs. Your main task and responsibilities will be:
- Support to plan and develop new wind farm sites
- Analyse meteorological data and its effects in the long term availability of the windfarms
- Analyse all constraints of every specific site, in order to define the optimal lay-out of WTGs
- Calculate the energy production and the uncertainty associated to these calculations
- Study the wind conditions at current wind farm sites.
Where will you work?You will be based in Amsterdam, but are part of a cross-border Engineering and Construction team. You work together with 10 other Wind analyst, one of them is also working in the Netherlands. The job might require some incidental travelling across Europe.

Wind Resource Analyst Job Requirements
- You must have a University degree in engineering/physical/meteorology science degree or equivalent.
- Preferably a few years of experience in a similar position
- Understanding the wind cycle and the industry
- Thorough knowledge of wind flow modeling and the use of relevant software such as WindPro, WASP, Windfarmer or other comparable programms.
- Understanding of making field measurements and putting up relevant measurement equipment on site for onshore and offshore purposes
- Interest in renewable energy and climate
- You are skilled in using computer aided design and/or engineering tools/principles. You must be very articulate in English speech and writing, and be flexible and willing to travel. Ability to speak Dutch is an important asset.
