Job description
In the design phase your task is to challenge the engineering department to come up with a commercial design (design to manufacturing and design to cost). Besides that, one of the key elements in your role is the development and implementation of (new) production processes. Key drivers are reduction of manufacturing costs (early in the supply chain), optimization of the assembly flow and logistics, while maintaining the high quality that is standard in Space. In this position, you are the linking pin for projects, interacting with Engineering, Procurement, AIT and suppliers.
The production of parts is mostly outsourced, but the assembly and integration of the various projects takes place in-house. You are responsible for defining the process flow and assessing what part of the integration is done in house and what at suppliers. Moreover you are in charge of the definition of the tooling to ensure that products are manufactured according specifications, mechanical ground support equipment and logistics. In addition you look at possibilities to automate the production and assembly processes by for example robotization. You help to develop our suppliers and in house production to work efficient and effective in a high tech environment. You act as a technical authority to give technical support to AIT in the start-up phase of production and assist in case problems occur.
What it takes
You have completed relevant technical education at Bachelor or Master level. You bring hands-on experience with the development of production processes and systems (minimum of 3 years). You know everything about materials such as aluminium, stainless steel, titanium and composites and their specific manufacturing and assembly methods such as milling, turning, surface treatment, mechanical fastening, adhesive bonding and welding. You are familiar with robotization, logistics (handling) processes, process management (by means of process flow, PFMEA, control plan). You are used to work on project basis and you have experience with Lean and 5S. You master the English language in speech and writing. Prior work experience in serial production in the aerospace industry is considered an advantage
