So, what’s so good about this role compared to all the other Software Engineer positions out there, you might ask...
- Well, you’ll get to work in a team using the best software development practices of the moment: Scrum, collaborative code ownership, heavy usage of unit testing, Git, and all that jazz.
- One of the best things about this role is that you’ll be designing the solutions from scratch, owning each new feature from the beginning, right through to its release. Also, because of our Kanban-like approach, it means you'll be releasing code to production as soon as it is ready (it can mean a new release every day).
- You’ll be working with large-scale web systems... So that means dealing with data sets with 100 million+ items, systems handling tens of thousands of transactions per second... you get the gist.
- We want you to grow and stay ahead of latest and greatest technologies, so you’ll have a chance to use up-to-the-minute tools, such as distributed caches and computations, RESTful services, clustering and more.
- The main thing is that you’ll be in a great environment, solving hard technical problems and refining your skills as a developer, learning from (and teaching) like-minded and talented colleagues… because when it comes down to it, that’s really important to us and we hope it is to you too.
Sounds good? So what will you actually be doing on a day to day basis though? - You’ll need you to write great Java code. We’re talking seriously good here.
- Like to be kept on your toes? Good. You’ll get to work on our 7+ different websites, implementing new features and refactoring the huge code base.
- We hope you have good communication skills because we need you to be able to join forces with our teams in the UK and US to develop large-scale web systems together.
- Hopefully you’re an ideas person, because you’ll be expected to conceive, create and develop new features and components in our shopping comparison systems. It’s up to you to implement and own any internal tools that you may need.

- A Java guru, an expert, a specialist, a leading light, a rock star or whatever you want to call yourself – are you most excellent at Java?
- Somebody who is an expert in most of the main technologies in our software stack - specifically Tomcat, Spring, Hibernate, Oracle RDBMS, Linux... (and we mean have you had solid experience with these?)
- Happiest developing RESTful web services.
- A person with the potential to improve our extremely competent developer team – this means you need to either have lots of potential or already be a great developer, because this isn’t easy.
