Media Processing Division
The Media Processing Division produces Graphics hardware and software for mobile and embedded devices. Our Mali™ Graphics Processors (GPUs) have an advanced, highly programmable architecture for accelerating 2D and 3D graphics, and are tuned for high performance and low energy consumption. Our OpenGL ES and OpenVG drivers support cutting edge gaming and state of the art user interfaces on operating systems such as Linux, Android, Symbian and Windows CE. Job Purpose and Accountabilities
We are looking for a student or recent graduate for a 6-12 month placement to work on graphics applications for Mali devices. Working from our Cambridge office you will be part of a demo team developing embedded graphics software for next-generation platforms, including generating content for http://www.malideveloper.com . Have a look at the demos there. Primary responsibilities include: attending global demo events representing ARM; global demo event preparations and logistics; low-level programming, set up and configuration of embedded platforms; games and benchmark testing on mobile platforms; maintenance of the platform and device asset database; procurement and sourcing of devices such as phones; and shipping and logistics of demos. Between events, responsibilities will include programming, debug and optimization work in the demo, developer relations and tools teams.
In this role you will gain perspective on the engineering and marketing aspects of the Mali Ecosystem teams. There are many examples of students on placements such as this one being employed permanently by ARM at the end of their placement or degree.
Education & Qualifications
A good university degree in Computer Science or Engineering - in progress or recently completed.
Essential Skills & Experience
• Programming and debugging
• Interest in graphics and an exposure to 2D or 3D graphics concepts
• Good problem-solving and investigative skills when examining performance or integration issues
• An ability to work well in a team
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills
Desirable Skills & Experience
• C/C++ programming
• Experience of the OpenGL, OpenGL-ES or DirectX APIs, or examples of having produced graphics or game software
• Experience of software optimisation and instrumentation
• Experience with standard GNU/Linux tool chain, shells, source versioning systems such as SVN or GIT
• Hands-on experience in developing with embedded platforms and/or real-time operating systems
