Principal Process Engineer (EN-000047) Job Description

Job Summary

We provide services across a wide range of disciplines and applications covering fixed and floating offshore structures, terminals, refineries, petrochemical plants and pipelines. Atkins has worked on over 1,000 Oil and Gas Installations and 60% of our Oil and Gas Revenues now come from beyond the North Sea. We work on some of the most exciting and varied projects in the Oil and Gas sector.  

The Principal Process Engineer is responsible for all aspects of process conceptual engineering design to meet the technical and commercial expectations of Atkins and delivery of projects to its clients.  

This responsibility includes individual calculation effort, preparation of Basis of Design documents (BOD’s) front-end studies, oversight of detailed design and engineering packages in accordance with Contract requirements and good engineering practices. Organize, manage, assign and control staff working in the discipline. Ensure through direction and guidance of personnel that the engineering work is progressed efficiently, to maintain schedule without compromising on quality.     

Job Details  

Responsibilities:

• Providing quality assurance of calculations prepared by team to Atkins Quality Management System
• Supervising and providing input to building and running simulation models
• Discipline input to estimates and proposals, and subsequent production of conceptual design deliverables within agreed budget and schedule constraints
• Carrying out screening studies and developing BOD’s in support of potential engineering projects
• Carrying out process simulations and optimization studies for selected projects and prepare Process Flow Schemes with mass balances and equipment sizes
• Providing detailed process engineering input during all design phases as required by the client, including interpretation of industry standards
• Reviewing any process design work carried out by third parties (detailed design contractors, vendors), and to participate in HAZOPs as required
• Internal resourcing, staff management, project scheduling and reporting
• Actively training and encouraging the development of junior staff to fulfill process and systems engineering roles
• Liase with the other disciplines, client's engineering and production personnel to ensure consistent basis for all input parameters
• Contribution as required to bids, proposals, client presentations and marketing activity

Principal Process Engineer (EN-000047) Job Requirements

Qualifications / Skills Required:

• The successful candidate will have a Degree in Chemical Engineering and professional membership with the Institute or equivalent. You will have more than 10 years oil and gas industry or refinery experience with some of this in a multi-discipline design environment of Chemical Engineers
• The role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Project engineering skills to ensure studies and projects are delivered within agreed budgets and schedules.
• Some experience in typical topside unit operation would be an advantage
• Particular experience in identification and screening of development concepts and FEED
• Experience in feasibility, concept selection and front end engineering studies
• Experienced in interfacing with operations personnel and engineering disciplines in an operating company environment
• Understanding of oil & gas project economics screening practices
• Knowledge of project execution and regulatory issues
• Knowledge of various codes and standards such as API 520 / 521, AS, ASME / ANSI / NORSOK  as appropriate
