DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The Engineering Department deliver the companies technical service to our global partners and project manage each installation in the UK. With PRINCE2 certified project managers, experienced electrical engineers and dedicated logistical support mean the department delivers an industry leading service.

JOB PURPOSE

Working with other specialist within the Global Technical Services department the role is responsible to provide full technical product knowledge and advanced understand of the existing product range and to administer any Research and Development projects. Work with key product suppliers/designer and provide technical product support services to global partners.

RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

Reports to: Head of Global Technical Services

Budgetary/financial framework: To ensure R&D projects are managed and delivered on time and to budget whilst ensuring our key suppliers remain competitive.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Functional effectiveness: Perform as one of the departments Technical & Product Specialists. Demonstrate experience and expertise in a variety of the field's, practices, and procedures needed within the department. Rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Assist in directing the activities necessary to keep the department operating seamlessly, efficiently, and effectively.

Product Support & Issue resolution: Ensure the department provides a Global Service and Support function for the range of products ensuring any technical, installation and Product Warranty issues are correctly administered. Includes the analysis of issues and implementation of all necessary corrective actions and change requests. Requires the need to perform as a Technical Product Specialist and liaise directly with the engineering representative of our Global Partners.

Management of Manufacturing: Ensure the products continue to be of the highest standards and maintain the 100% reliability record. Requires the role of an experienced expert in Electronic/Electrical disciplines to continually assess and perform performance reviews, including quality & safety assurance checks. Must make certain that all products comply and are compatible with all necessary global legislative requirements.

On-going Research and Development: As instructed by the Technical Committee, the continual development of the technology and ancillary components or projects to maintain the competitive edge and support growth in global unit sales and profitability. Perform the role of a Technical Analyst in reviewing and keeping abreast of new technologies that would diversify the groups offering.

Technical Product Specialist Job Requirements

The successful candidate will likely be an Electronic/Electrical Product Development/Design/Systems Engineer, or similar to a UPS/Inverter Drive Development Engineer who is able to demonstrate experience in one or more of the following technical domains achieved over a minimum of five years:

• The design/development of complex electronic circuits/subassemblies specifically Thyristor Controlled and Transformer Systems;
• The design and programming of Digital Electronics including common microprocessor and microcontroller interfacing methods;
• The coordination, creation and verification of documentation for design, testing, installation, and certification of products
• Participation in established technical processes such as Design Reviews and Product Conformance Testing
• Hardware interfacing and system integration with microprocessor hardware and software.; Management of key project and process issues and risks (define, analyse, resolve);
• Computer Modelling, Product Testing & Validation.

• The ability to use CAD software Design tools, Schematic Capture and High Speed Simulation;
• The ability to provide succinct and accurate reports and presentations ;
• Application of appropriate project management techniques to ensure the successful completion of assigned projects as lead or as a participant

• Solid track record of accomplishments and engineering success
• Strong systems engineering aptitude
• Demonstrated success in difficult decision making and problem resolution
• Can work without direct continual close supervision
