The Young Professionals Programme

We are launching an accelerator for your international career – the Young Professionals Programme (YPP). We want the most talented young professionals in a variety of areas to participate in this select programme.
Through this global three-year programme, you will experience the frontline of a political and military alliance and start a journey of personal and professional development. Together, we will enable NATO to:
- Leverage innovation, science and technology to support peace and security;
- Stay ahead in cutting edge domains such as cyber defence and aerospace;
- Address emergent global challenges with security implications;
- Support multiple operations on land, sea and air around the world;
- Fight terrorism, piracy and human trafficking at a global level;
- Facilitate political consultation and dialogue between Nations; and,
- Run crisis management exercises that mobilise thousands of people and equipment.

Your roleDuring the three years of the programme, you will be assigned to three different NATO bodies, one each year. You can find out more about the work of these NATO bodies here.
This is an opportunity for you to apply your knowledge and skills in the broader area of Engineering, Logistics and Supply Chain. As you gain experience, you will be given increasing responsibilities, such as:
- Contribute to elements of the entire lifecycle of military capabilities development, in particular physical infrastructure, engineering works and support equipment, from definition of requirements, planning, delivery and retirement;
- Provide advice and conduct analyses on operational requirements, capability definition, performance requirements and project planning for capability delivery;
- Participate in logistics support activities for weapon systems and field operations, including turn-key construction of hard structure facilities, fuel supply and engineering works such as renovation of roads, bridges and railways;
- Support the preparation and negotiation of large scale purchasing agreements, consolidation of requirements, centralization of purchasing and international competitive bidding;
- Conduct activities related with a variety of procurement processes, including development of requests for information, requests for quotation and evaluation of bids;
- Contribute to the delivery of civilian logistics including distribution, handling, transportation, management, warehousing and automation; and,
- Research new trends and innovation in the topic of Engineering, Logistics and Supply Chain.
Who we are looking forThe changing pace of the world demands that NATO and its people remain flexible, eager to learn and able to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders from multicultural backgrounds. For this role, we are generally interested in the following educational backgrounds:
- Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrotechnical and others), Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Business and Economics, Law, Information and Communication Technology, Mathematics, Business Administration, Public Administration; and
- Any other degree that you believe can be useful to the area of Engineering, Logistics and Supply Chain – let us know how your knowledge and skills can be applied!
The following skills are considered an asset:
- Knowledge of software for project and portfolio management;
- Experience with engineering works and supply chain operations and processes; and,
- Excellent communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills.
