The Optical Sensor and Metrology Department in ASML Wilton, Connecticut is seeking ASML is seeking a material scientist or chemical engineer with expertise in coating and etching technologies.  The advanced process development and flatness competence group within Optical Sensor and Metrology Department is a group involved in the development of metrology and process solutions that are needed to design and manufacture high precision nm flat ceramic structures that hold wafers and reticles in  ASML Lithography tools.


Job Mission
ASML is seeking a qualified candidate for a Co-op position (6 months) in material science and chemistry to investigate design and manufacturing process solution for ultra-high precision optics and ceramics products used in  ASML’s Lithography products.  This person will join the Optical Sensor and Metrology Department in Wilton, Connecticut. The main job function is to investigate and create wafer/reticle clamping samples used in ASML system using coating, etching, polishing, laser ablation and metrology systems and process, to extend/improve capability and to solve challenging engineering problems associated with achieving nanometer-scale precision.
 
Job Description
*MULTIPLE POSITIONS AVAILABLE*
Understand the existing manufacturing process and metrology techniques to investigate know / new ideas.
Create samples/prototypes to improve the wear, roughness and friction performance of coatings by making appropriate material, process and equipment choices.
use coating, etching, polishing, laser ablation and metrology  systems and process, to create these samples
Investigate, material and chemical issues in bonding, glueing, coating and etching process
and flatness issues/challenges using appropriate material diagnostic tools  like SEM, AFM, WLI, phase-shifting interferometers etc
Clearly communicate the progress and status of ongoing technical activities to senior management.

Education
Candidate should be a Master /PhD student in Physics, Material Sciences, chemistry or other related engineering disciplines.

Experience
Have excellent written and oral communication skills and a commitment to achieving results on time while under time constraints;  High energy, high ownership, high level of dedication;
Be willing to jump in on new issues, get to the bottom of the causes and propose practical solutions;
Be able to break down complex problems with limited data to come to solutions – strong critical thinking capability;
Be able to interface with multidisciplinary groups and work effectively in a team and be willing to take on responsibility.
Be able to quickly acquire technical knowledge from documentation and on-the-job training and be capable of thoroughly investigating technical issues (analytically and hands-on in a lab)
