Validation Manager Job Description

Do you wish to create the "tried and tested" of the future? Do you have a Master degree in a relevant technical field such as Mechanical Engineering / Manufacturing Engineering or similar? Do you have 10 years experience in automotive validation within an OEM from which you have approximately 7 years (department) management experience?  And do you want to join us on our mission to change the future of mobility?

Who is Lightyear?
Lightyear is an innovative and progressive scale-up with one mission; offering clean and affordable mobility for everyone, everywhere! Lightyear originated from the multiple world champion of the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge® Cruiser Class, Solar Team Eindhoven. With Stella and Stella Lux they have developed a solar powered, 4 person, road legal car. Lightyear was officially established in 2016 and started to make this groundbreaking technology accessible to everyone! In 2016 they started with 5 visionaries, at the beginning of 2018 Lightyear has grown to 40 enthusiasts. Meanwhile, in mid-2019, Lightyear consists of nearly 150 employees and we are still counting. Lightyear has its own production facility and a new office is under construction (delivery July 2019). This growth will continue in the coming years. For that reason we are looking for talent and experience to strengthen ourselves and to contribute in achieving our mission!

What will you do as Validation Manager?
Lightyear is looking for an automotive validation manager for the development of the Lightyear One. You will work together with the vehicle architects and module owners to make sure that Lightyear One and it’s components meet the targeted quality levels focussing on reliability, performance, NVH and security. You will work with an enthusiastic group of talented engineers; a mix between young and experienced people. Providing lots of opportunities to help shape the validation department, processes and the company. The responsibilities are:

• Setup and maintain the validation schedule of the Lightyear One
• Keep the validation within budget
• Manage and coordinate validation activities
• Coordinate and manage external validation activities
• Build, expand and lead the validation team (Testing / Proto)
• Make arrangements for validation activities
• Be a critical sparring partner for architects and module owners supporting them to reach realistic and achievable quality goals
• Act as the contact between the validation team and the regulatory agencies (f.e. RDW)
• Work closely together with the system test architect on verification and validation of test activities throughout development
• Support homologation activities
• Responsible for vehicle requirements review
• Make sure that validation requirements and testability requirements are implemented into the system
• Participate in design reviews, FMEA’s, HARA’s

Validation Manager Job Requirements

What do we expect from a Validation Manager at Lightyear?
To succeed in the dynamic world of Lightyear, pro-activity, professionalism, communication and adaptability are crucial. In addition, we are looking for someone with an ambitious attitude who learns from the past (tried and tested) but who is especially open to transforming new developments or ideas into the "tried and tested" of the future! You are also someone with a high sense of responsibility and a cooperative attitude. You like short lines of communication. Furthermore you'll bring:

• Master degree in a relevant technical field such as Mechanical Engineering / Manufacturing Engineering or related fields
• 7+ years (department) management experience in which you worked for an OEM
• 10+ years experience in automotive validation in which you worked for an OEM
• You have contacts with relevant automotive testing and validation parties and service providers
• Proven experience with project management skills (certificates, such as “Prince2” are a big plus)
• Strong familiarity with relevant software (e.g. Infor / JIRA)
• Understanding of industry guideline processes applied to safety critical automotive systems (ISO 26262)
• A result driven mindset , with a proven track record, often delivering under tight deadlines
• Team player with a flexible, agile attitude and excellent communication skills
• Able to introduce and improve processes related to validation
• Fluent in English, Dutch proficiency is a plus
• Availability for 40 hours a week
