Aerodynamic Engineer Job Description

What will you do as Aerodynamic Engineer?
As an aerodynamic engineer you will combine CAD and CFD skills to transfer ideas for aerodynamic improvements into the car concept. Which you can simulate using CFD. Based on your interpretation of the results several iterations of the design can be performed until an optimized new car shape is created. You will create valuable design input for our external design partner and within Lightyear for other crucial systems. This gives you the chance to experience the complete design loop of the Lightyear One. Specialization or development into one specific area of the design cycle based on your preferences is envisioned.

We are looking for an engineer that has the potential to develop within the aerodynamics team and to become an expert in a specific domain. For example; on road testing, aeroacoustics, thermo-aerodynamics, experimental simulations, flutter, adjoint optimization etc.

Aerodynamic Engineer Job Requirements

What do we expect from an Aerodynamic Engineer at Lightyear?
To succeed in the dynamic world of Lightyear, pro-activity, professionalism, communication and adaptability are crucial. In addition, we are looking for someone with an ambitious attitude who learns from the past (tried and tested) but who is especially open to transforming new developments or ideas into the "tried and tested" of the future! You are also someone with a high sense of responsibility and a cooperative attitude. You like short lines of communication. You have good communication skills and you are a self starter with a ‘can do’ mentality. You can create/build from scratch, you are committed, punctual, a team player, flexible, stress resilient and of course a fast learner. Furthermore you'll bring:

• A Master degree in Aerospace Engineering or equivalent with a specialization in Aerodynamics
• At least 2 years of full-time and relevant work experience in applying aerodynamics (experience in automotive aerodynamics is considered as a tremendous plus) 
• Understanding of flow phenomena, linking shape changes to flow characteristics and interpretation of results from simulations and from the wind tunnel.
• You are able to perform independent research, but you can also work together in a multidisciplinary environment for the integration of aerodynamic features with the rest of the car.
• You have strong communication skills in English (required). Knowledge of the Dutch language is a plus.
• CAD experience in CATIA is preferred
• CFD experience in OpenFoam is preferred
• You have good presentation skills, clear and concise presentation of results and findings from work (within aerodynamics, but also for external parties and other colleagues)
• You have an ordered way of working / documenting: large amount of data is generated with simulations & wind tunnel tests, that should be archived clearly. 
• Availability for 40 hours per week
