The energy sector and (chemical) industry are in a transition towards the use of new feedstocks, the use of renewable energy, more energy efficient processes, the introduction of circularity, and, of course, carbon capture and re-use. Within the Sustainable Process & Energy Systems group at TNO we work on all these transitional topics, working for, and with, (renewable) energy and chemistry companies and a network of international knowledge partners.
One of the flagship programs of the group is the Shared Research Center Biorizon (www.biorizon.eu), which works on the technology development of bio-based aromatics. To complement our Biorizon team, we are currently seeking an experienced Synthetic Organic Chemist to work on the development (gram-scale) and scale-up (kilograms/hour) of chemical processes for the production of bio-aromatic chemicals. You will be part of a small team at our facility in Bergen op Zoom which is responsible for developing and scaling up high quality, safe chemical processes. You will be responsible for setting up, performing and analyzing experiments as well as general facility maintenance tasks.
Shared Research Center Biorizon
Aromatics are among the most important feedstocks for the chemical industry, but virtually all these building blocks are currently made from fossil sources. The Shared Research Center Biorizon, an initiative of TNO, VITO, ECN and the Green Chemistry Campus, develops technologies to produce aromatics from organic waste streams. The goal: to facilitate commercial production of bio-aromatics by 2025. This will diminish dependence on fossil fuels, lower CO2-emissions and provide the chemical industry with profitable and sustainable raw materials.
