Tasks:
Development of innovative processes for the sampling and preconcentration of trace substances (explosives, illicit drugs, controlled goods) for follow-on chemical detection. Design, integration and test of detection systems that seamlessly incorporate the newly developed sampling and preconcentration options into chemical detection equipment. The applicant will be integrated into the development teams working for the newly acquired EU security projects "DIRAC", "BONAS" and "SNIFFER". The applicant is expected to provide the scientific background of these projects. These activities will make an important contribution to the "Dissemination & Exploitation" of these projects and culminate in a high-quality PhD thesis. Designing, integration and testing of the developed sampling/detection systems require furthermore an intense cooperation with IW-SI staff. A good capacity for teamwork is mandatory.
We are looking for candidates with the following skills:
- Degree in Chemics, Physics or similar
- Technical skills (mechanics, electronics, software) acquired during previous activities
- Good knowledge base in physics, chemistry, electronics, IT, data processing, CAD, simulation
- Capacity to work in teams
- German and English: fluent
