EUMETSAT is now inviting well qualified candidates from its Member States to apply for the following post:
Within the Data Processing Systems Engineering Competence Area (DP S&A) of the System Engineering and Projects (SEP) Division, the Data Processing Verification and Validation (V&V) Engineer support the V&V activities of the data processing systems during their initial development and as part of upgrades and maintenance. The engineer will also contribute to the definition of verification and validation strategies, plans, procedures in the design phase of new (or evolved) Data Processing systems.
· Define and manage the V&V plans and schedule for data processing functions that are part of different end-to-end satellite systems developed or exploited by EUMETSAT;
· Lead/coordinate the implementation and execution of the approved Data Processing V&V plans and test campaigns, including preparation and coordination of related Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs) and Test Review Board meetings (TRBs);
· Develop & maintain the supporting environments and tools (including automated verification environments) required for the timely and efficient execution of planned test campaigns, including procurement of new tools, maintenance and evolution of existing ones, and procurement and management of external support;
· Support for the definition of new (or updated) Data Processing Systems and Applications V&V strategies and roadmaps (including relevant budgetary inputs);
· Lead the identification and handling of Data Processing V&V related risks;
· Support the Data Processing Systems and Applications Competence Area Manager in defining long term plans and roadmaps to harmonise engineering, maintenance and evolutions of Data Processing Systems across all satellite systems exploited by EUMETSAT.
· Proven experience in engineering of Data Processing systems following well established processes, covering the full development lifecycle and relevant technical standards (e.g. ECSS, CCSDS, OGC);
· Demonstrable knowledge of software development lifecycles and change control processes;
· Experience in the area of Data Processing Systems Verification &Validation (V&V) activities, including identification of necessary test data and tools, automated testing in support of system testing, software testing, unit testing, software debugging and profiling;
· Ability to manage complex tasks with minimum supervision, including planning and prioritisation of activities, allocation and coordination of resources (including budget), monitoring and reporting;
· Good interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to apply these to a team environment while working within a matrix structure;
· Experience leading/coordinating engineering teams and in the management of industrial contracts will be considered an advantage.
· In addition, it would be an advantage to be certified in one of the recognised bodies for S/W testing (e.g. International Software Testing Qualifications Board -ISTQB®UALIFICATIONS
· A university degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Software or Systems Engineering or another relevant discipline.
· Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and have some knowledge of French.
The initial contract will be of 4 years’ duration, with subsequent 5-year contracts being awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of follow-up contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63 and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT.
This post is graded A2/A4 on the EUMETSAT salary scales. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 5,612 per month (net of internal tax) which may be negotiable on the basis of skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year.
