Main purpose Provide Application Engineering support and advice for internal and external customers on all aspects of Cummins’ portfolio and businesses ensuring that CMI installation / application requirements and guidelines are met, specifying appropriate equipment & materials for customized up-fit products, ensuring comprehensive project evaluations of installation and engine operation validation tests are performed.
Key responsibilities
• As part of a multi-discipline team, provide technical support to customers / stakeholders through engine installation requirements at design stage by providing information on CMI Guidelines / theory calculations / product issues.
• Understand and apply Cummins application and installation guidelines and requirements, combined with a thorough knowledge of Cummins portfolio.
• Conduct field site installation tests using actual engine operation validation tests with the goal of obtaining full compliance of Cummins guidelines.
• Support to customers and stakeholders on all products, components, systems, installation guidelines, cost and risk management, and product troubleshooting.
• Ensure all new product updates, tools, development in technology, literature bulletins and installations guidelines are communicated to employees and customers, where necessary implemented within our business operations.
• Specifying appropriate equipment and materials for customized up-fit products.
• Provide technical engineering / application support and advice for internal and external customers for all aspects of the products and business, ensuring CMI installation and application requirements are met.
• Develop, document and issue option structures / specifications / new item parts and suppliers / Project Bill of Materials in line with business and customer requirements striving for right first time goals, paying close attention to detail for quality, cost and delivery / supply partnerships.
• Keep abreast of product updates, tools, development in technology and installation guidelines for all relevant market sectors.
• Participate in Project Teams in cross-functional proactive and corrective action groups.
• Collaborate with the Engine Business Unit / Power Gen Business Unit / Electronics and Controls Engineering groups and Technical Functional Excellence in the Centers of Excellence on cross BU responsibility and accountability for controls validation and customer requested calibration development.
• Document & issue professional installation reports in line with Cummins Business requirements.
• Prepare and maintain job files for each project.
• Ensure documentation of project scope according Cummins established procedures.
• Ensure technical scope of project is defined before project is initiated, negotiate with stakeholders on necessary modifications.
• Keep abreast of product updates, tools, development in technology and installation guidelines for relevant market sector
Skills and experience required
• Diesel Engine Qualification / Experience.
• Mechanical, Electrical Engineering background or similar.
• Working knowledge of Cummins VPI and product release system.
• Able to develop and utilize Cummins Engineering Standard Work (ESW)
• Technical knowledge in diesel electric applications.
• Technical knowledge in structural mechanics.
• Experience with business operating systems.
• Subsystem and application / installation knowledge.
• Methodical and common approach to problem solving.
• Multi Project coordination with excellent written / verbal communications and project management skills.
• Flexible / Positive & Enthusiastic Team player with a good manner & attitude with a determination to get the job done.
• Product and component Knowledge.
• Basic electrical knowledge.
• Experience with business systems.
• ERP System.
• Cummins Product Range and Cummins installation guideline knowledge / experience.
• Good Computer skills using Company E-mail [Lotus Notes] & Microsoft Office, Word & Excel. • Facilitate Problem Solving and Prioritization Processes.
