At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. They use the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments to study the basic constituents of matter, the fundamental particles. The particles are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives the physicists clues about how the particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature.
Computer Network Engineer Job Description
Functions
As a Computer Network Engineer in the EP-ADT-DQ Section, you will:
- Take a major role in the administration, operation and maintenance of the DAQ networks: this includes active traffic monitoring, follow-up and tracking of incidents, installation and configuration of new network devices.
- Providing technical advice and guidance to other members of the ATLAS DAQ Group and system administrators.
- Play a key role in the physical installation, configuration, commissioning and integration of new DAQ network infrastructure during the LHC shutdown (2019-2020).
- Work on the software suite needed to control and monitor the behaviour of the DAQ networks: this involves evaluation of third-party network monitoring and administration tools, improving in-house developed software.
- Contribute to the network design and implementation in preparation for the Phase-II Upgrade (2024-2026). Working with the ATLAS DAQ team, you will follow the requirement evolution and keep up to date with emerging network technologies.
- Foster contacts with network-device manufacturers and propose R&D projects to evaluate particularly promising technologies, possibly in collaboration with other groups at CERN
