Introduction
ASML is building a strong position in the field of metrology for the semiconductor market. In ASML’s Research department, new concepts and applications are being invented and designed for future markets of lithography and metrology in various fields of semiconductor manufacturing
Job Mission
Execute high-level research with application to metrology requirements for future electronic devices in the semiconductor industry, with an emphasis on thin-film metrology directed to
n&k measurement and modeling.
Job Description
Various trends in device manufacturing push both optical lithography and optical metrology to
challenging requirements.
This research position is directed towards thin film metrology, involving amongst others the measurement and modeling of optical constants of various materials as used in the semiconductor industry, and this in the EUV wavelength range (at and around 13.5nm). Knowledge about theoptical constants n&k is required for computational lithography as well as
for critical-dimension metrology using techniques of profile reconstruction, also known as CD-reconstruction (CD = critical dimension).
The intended research may address, among others, the following aspects, which are outlined in a bit more detail:
- Thin-film metrology with reflectometry and/or ellipsometry.
- Investigation of (semi-)empirical modeling for optical constants n&k based on experimental
data of thin films and layer stacks, leading to the development of dispersion models of n&k in the
soft-X-ray/EUV wavelength range.- Organisation of manufacturing of reference wafers and various reference measurements on thin films that are complementary to reflectometry and/or ellipsometry.
Education
PhD in Physics. A specialization in thin-film metrology directed to n&k measurement and modeling is highly preferred. Candidates with a background and modeling expertise in (i) Extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) or (ii) near edge X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS / XANES) are also encouraged to apply.ExperienceWe are looking for an enthousiastic researcher with the following expertise:
- Experience with n&k modeling and metrology, as e.g. applied in spectroscopic ellipsometry.- Experience with reflectometry and/or ellipsometry for thin-film metrology.
Personal skills
We are looking for a person with the following skillset:Team-playerCommitment to team and companyHigh personal ambition and driveDrive to deliver excellent performanceSelf-propellingnessCommunication skills for communication at various levels in the organizationSolution-oriented mind-setWillingness to learn the Dutch language
