Introduction
The EUV source team in San Diego operates in a fast-paced, uniquely innovative, and challenging environment to create new-to-industry solutions with rapid productization to support an aggressive commercialization plan for the EUV technology within ASML.
The platform Satellite team is responsible for the integration, qualification, and support of the gas delivery system, fluid and thermal system, mechanical systems and high-pressure residual gas analyzer.
The complexity of the EUV source puts exciting and challenging demands on the platform Satellite Mechanical Engineers who will be engaged in integration and support of the mechanical subassemblies and modules, gas and vacuum systems, fluid and thermal systems all working under extremely challenging dynamic conditions to produce stable EUV light.
The Platform Satellite Mechanical Engineer will support design, development, and integration of next-generation gas and vacuum and mechanical subsystems and high-pressure residual gas analyzer for the creation and control of EUV radiation.
Job Mission
The Platform Satellite Mechanical Engineer will perform a variety of engineering tasks including troubleshooting of complex gas and vacuum systems, data collection & analysis, system integration & validation, test plan development, test analysis reports, remote and on-site field support for customer escalations.
S/he will represent the gas and vacuum, fluid and thermal, main body source module and high-pressure residual gas analyzer project within San Diego and serve as an interface to the design project in the Netherlands and San Diego Integration and Customer Service. The Satellite Team interface between sites is critical to efficient coordination & execution ensuring upgrades are executed to plan and system availability is maximized.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Represent in San Diego Gas & Vacuum, Fluid & Thermal, Main body source module and High-Pressure Residual Gas Analyzer projects based in Netherlands Support project meetings to ensure close alignment to project development activities & escalations Assembles and tests gas delivery modules, fluid and thermal subassemblies and high-pressure residual gas analyzers to support handling and transport of the prototypes and assemblies
Provides a broad mechanical engineering design background and performs mechanical engineering analysis (stress, fluids, vibrations, thermal), design for control and distribution of inert and hazardous gases, air and water handling for thermal management of equipment and enclosures, large enclosure design, electrical component packaging, mechanical structural mounts and fixtures, design for manufacturability in low volume products, and design for configuration management. Assumes engineering responsibility for component and subassembly test development, data acquisition, analysis, and reporting. Interacts closely with development engineers, scientists, suppliers, and QA to resolve quality issues. Assists with driving full documentation of design including, BOM, drawings, and procedures Receive knowledge transfer from projects on new module and tools release
Provide knowledge transfer training to upgrades, integration, customer service & manufacturing engineering personnel Audit engineering changes (EC) & associated documentation for planned upgrades in San Diego Develops test plan, creates test procedure, and executes the test Represent assigned projects in Test Review Board (TRB) meeting & review test procedures with TRB Review test results with the Safety Review Board (SRB)
Perform upgrades & testing, including Source operation, on systems in San Diego, Netherlands & at customer sites, as needed (hands-on). Collects and analyzes test data, summarizes results, and presents test results for review with internal and external customers
Provides recommendations to projects to improve reliability, availability, manufacturability & serviceability. Develop system integration sequence and validate procedure(s) for tested module Represent project in issue resolution management and tracking to provide accurate status updates Analyzes system issues, plans & conducts investigations, defines root cause, provide containment solutions & suggests solutions & implements changes. Escalation management for integration test-rigs, factory and fielded systems
Follows standard ways of working within ASML and specific to the satellite team Utilize & drive review process to ensure efficient implementation is achieved Assists other test engineers for best common solutions Travel to domestic and overseas internal & customer sites to receive & provide training, upgrade, optimize, perform preventative maintenance test, and trouble-shoot systems (<25%) Work according to safety rules & report near misses and safety issues accurately & immediately Participates in the screening & selection of team members & mentors new team members Effectively works & prioritizes activities with minimal supervision or direction Performs other duties as assigned
Education
Requires a minimum Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering or other related engineering or science. Master’s Degree preferred. Minimum of two (2) years of experience is required with a BS degree, no experience is required with an MS degree.
Experience
Excellent analytical skills and trouble shooting skills Proficient in data collection, statistical analysis, and report summarization. Effectively reports problems through written and/or graphical formats. Excellent written and verbal communication skills Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles Knowledge of mechanical systems, assemblies and sub-assemblies knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance Analysis (GD&T) Experience with 3D solid modelling – Unigraphics/NX desired Experience with analytical software e.g. MatLab, LabView, and Python etc desired Experience with Product Development tasks desired: bills of material, interfacing with vendors, procurement of material for prototyping, change management. Ability to use MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and electronic e-mail systems. Ability to translate knowledge & hand-on experience into technical procedure Ability to develop trouble shooting guide/test plan
Excellent inter-personal service skills, with an advanced understanding of customer relationship building in highly multi-cultural environment. Ability to work either independently or as part of a development team Self-motivation and ability to work in a fast-moving high-tech environment Flexibility in work schedule including alternating day and night shifts and travels to oversees customer sites with short notices.
