Job Description
Gallium Nitride is a wide band gap semiconductor material with very promising applications for solid state lightening (LEDs) and high power electronics. Over the past years, imec has built a strong GaN program in this field. Essential for this program is the epitaxial growth of GaN hetero structures by Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD). The main challenge lies in the design and development of high-quality epitaxial layers with superior properties.
You will be a member of the Epitaxial GaN team. This is a young and dynamic team of 10 people, strongly intertwined with the imec GaN program. You will be responsible for delivering transferable results relevant to the industrial partners in a timely fashion and of high scientific quality. Your role will be threefold:
- You will be responsible for the development of MOCVD process steps for epitaxial GaN growth on Silicon. In this position you will take ownership of various MOCVD equipment- and process-related aspects, such as transferring processes to the pilot production line, scheduling runs, tracking process parameters, and troubleshooting process or equipment problems.
- You will build up scientific insights to continuously improve the processes in order to enhance the device properties and to meet the targets and challenges of the GaN program. You will report your activities on a regular basis to the R&D team, to the program, and to external partners of imec.
- You will look for innovative ideas for future technological applications, if possible consolidate them through scientific publications and patents, and thereby contribute to the long term vision of the group.
Profile
- You hold a PhD in Physics, Chemistry or Material Sciences, or a Master degree in Chemical Engineering with a passion for R&D. Some hands-on experience with MOCVD or epitaxial GaN growth is required.
- You are an enthusiastic, creative and ambitious team player, eager to contribute to the success of imec.
- You have well-developed communication and reporting skills and exhibit a positive attitude towards customers. Given the international character of imec, fluency in English is a must.
We offer
A challenging position in an advanced and international high-tech environment, in an international, interdisciplinary team. We offer you the opportunity to contribute to technologies that will have an impact on the society of tomorrow. The salary is interesting and added with competitive extra-legal benefits. Furthermore, imec offers various training possibilities and social services, such as a company restaurant, the possibility of day care, and discounts in different sport clubs and shops.
