QuTech is a growing research institute, established in 2014, in the area of quantum computing, a public-private collaboration between Delft University of Technology (the TU Delft) and the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO). In 2014, QuTech acquired the status of a national icon. The Netherlands occupies a unique position of expertise in the area of quantum computing. QuTech is its core, embedded in a broader ecosystem in the Netherlands and abroad. Within QuTech a path is being laid from pure academic research to a combination of scientific research and professional technology development. QuTech’s mission is the development of a quantum computer and quantum internet.
Within QuTech, a total of about 160 FTE scientists from TNO and the Faculties of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) and Applied Sciences work in an international, inspiring, and innovative setting with much room for ambition, entrepreneurship and innovation. QuTech is organised into so-called Roadmaps: Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computing, Topological Quantum Computing, Quantum Internet and Computing, Shared Development, and the QuTech Academy. QuTech is led by a Scientific Director, together with the Management Team, consisting of the Roadmap Leaders and the Managing Director (MD). The MD is responsible for QuTech’s operations and manages the support staff, including the QuTech technicians and cryo engineers. The working language is primarily English.
