Structural/Composites Engineer Job Description

We are Lightyear, we envision a shift from traditional environment polluting vehicles to clean and affordable mobility. It is our mission to disrupt the electric car market by providing zero emission mobility for everyone, everywhere. Our first offering is a zero emission solar electric car: The Lightyear One. The Lightyear One is the answer to the shortcomings of today’s electric vehicles. It is a beautifully designed, unplugged, energy independent car powered by the sun.

Responsibilities
The weight target of the Lightyear one is extremely low. We are therefore looking for motivated engineers that can handle the ambition and targets we have set. Beside lightweight we are also focusing on recyclability. Due to the large CO2 footprint of carbon fiber composites  we require to use more sustainable materials and production methods. One could think of natural fibers and thermoplastic resins. We are looking for engineers who can combine lightweight design with new composite materials that have a strongly reduce the carbon footprint compared to carbon fibers.

As a structural engineer you can be involved in the full circle; design, simulation and production of various components of Lightyear One.

• Selection of production methods

Structural/Composites Engineer Job Requirements

Requirements

• A Master’s degree or college education in Mechanical Engineering or similar
• Experience with 3D CAD software
• Experience with composites product design
• Experience with composites production processes
• Experience with composites structural FEM analysis
• Ability to think and work independently
• Availability for 40 hours a week
• Fluent in English, Dutch proficiency is a plus
