Mechanical Design Engineer with electro mechanical experience and skills/qualifications including:
Ø Degree/Masters/PhD level mechanical or electro-mechanical. Ø 3+ years relevant experience. Ø Good knowledge of 3D CAD, preferably Solid Works. Ø Good knowledge of basic electrical principles. Ø Understanding of basic principles of magnetics. Ø Familiarity with electro - mechanical devices. Ø Knowledge of simulation techniques, including FEA. Ø Able to apply FMEA methodology. Ø Good knowledge of materials and their properties, especially plastics and metals used in the switchgear industry. Ø Understanding of manufacturing processes used for moulded, pressed and turned parts and of the relevant design considerations.
Responsibilities of the role: Ø Design of mechanical components, in particular electrical switching mechanisms. Ø Design plastic components for use in electrical accessories. Ø Conduct detailed mechanical analysis (stress, FMEA, thermal, tolerance analysis, reliability, etc) of existing products to determine weaknesses and implement improvements. Ø Specify plastic and metal materials suitable for various applications. Ø Produce 3D models and 2D drawings. Ø Build and test prototype metal and plastic parts and manage the related sourcing and quality issues. Ø Support electronics engineers working on projects with mechanical components. Ø Work closely with toolmakers making injection and compression moulding tools for plastic parts. Ø Work closely with vendors on supply of pressed, turned and plastic parts. Ø Use precision measurement equipment to verify dimensional accuracy of mechanical components.
