Job description
As System Engineer, you are responsible for the development of (complex) optical systems. This can be an instrument for earth observation or a system for optical communication with satellites. You review the technical requirements in the context of its environment and you discuss and negotiate these with the customer. You conduct trade-offs to arrive at the best possible solution and with your team you derive specifications for suppliers and subcontractors and you ensure that these can be achieved within the boundaries of time and cost. You establish a development plan and make sure that it is followed so that the customer acquires what is agreed on time, on cost and on quality. You work on challenging projects such as the development of a state-of-the-art aerosol instrument for a NASA mission or of a ground station for optical communication.
What it takes
You have a university degree (Masters or PhD) in Physics or another relevant subject and at least 10 years of working experience whereof 5 years in the field of optical instrumentation. You can express yourself fluently in English both in speech and in writing. You are flexible and creative and you work constructively with colleagues, strategic partners and customers. You are result-oriented and able to plan and structure your own work as well as that of others. In addition, you have good analytical and communicative skills.
